Now I know they’re not real athletic shoes, just to clarify. I’ve never done any real physical or strenuous activity in them. I’d been wearing Converse for at least three years with no problems, but starting back in about March or April, I began to have mild pain on my two big toes, particularly around the cuticles.
I didn’t think much of it until around late May, when the pain was beginning to escalate to the point that it was painful to even crouch or bend my toes at all. The nail bed was also discolored, and the skin around my cuticles looked bruised. I finally told my mother at this point, and we went to go see a specialist. He told me that it was from the shoes themselves, and that he had seen a boy a few weeks earlier who had actually BROKEN his toes from them, and was soon going into extensive reconstructive surgery.
Now, in September, they still have not healed, and I have been stricken to open-toed shoes for months, which I absolutely hate. It’s still mildly painful to bend them, and especially to wear any shoe that bends directly over the cuticle, as most seem to do. The discoloration is worse, as both of the nails are slowly falling off and regrowing. This entire process has caused me so much discomfort and stress, and especially being the first time I’ve ever had something more seriously wrong with me, has made me severely alter my lifestyle.
I would like to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar to this, and if any type of legal action can be taken for it. Thank you for your time.
Figures. Such a kind and helpful answer already…my my, thank you for the concern. If you actually read it, however, I stated that I did nothing in the shoes that would actually leave the potential for harm, or an explanation for why this happened.
